Tom Wood: Bassoon

Tom has been playing his instrument since 1967 and with the Clinton Symphony Orchestra since 1987.

After earning his BA from Western Illinois University, Tom received his MA from the University of Iowa. He has studied bassoon with Robert Koper and Ronald Tyree.

Tom has had broad previous orchestra experience with the Peoria Symphony Orchestra, Peoria Civic Opera, Knox-Galesburg Symphony Orchestra, Cherokee, Iowa, Symphony Orchestra, Dubuque Symphony Orchestra and the Quad City Symphony Orchestra.

Other musical ensembles Tom has performed with include St. Anthony Church Choir, Rountree Players of UW Platteville, Sioux City Municipal Band, Quad City Mozart Fest, Friends of Chamber Music, and Identity Crisis '70's rock 'n' roll band.

Musical honors? Tom considers that "[P]eople honor me whenever they listen to me perform."

Tom holds solo performances with the Clinton Symphony, the Cherokee Symphony and Friends of Chamber Music as highlights in his music career. Other significant highlights include performing Stars and Stripes Forever in Barcelona, Spain; conducting Lanark, Illinois, High School Band at Comiskey Park; and, "watching myself on the Jumbotron."

Tom gives private instruction in the bassoon; he is employed as a band director in the Davenport School System.
