Marcia Henry Liebenow: Violin Soloist
Bruch: Violin Concerto in G minor
, Op. 26

If you crave brilliance and fire ... if you crave heart in your fiddlers, Henry [Liebenow]'s got that ... She wrung an almost yearning, romantic effect ... from the quieter, more poetic second movement.

Thus did critic Gary Panetta of the Peoria Journal Star elaborate on a previous concert appearance of Marcia Henry Liebenow performing the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor. Indeed, the Bruch is one of Henry Liebenow's impressive concerto repertoire ranging from Bach and Vivaldi to Barber and Prokofiev.

Marcia Henry Liebenow is Concertmaster of the Peoria Symphony Orchestra and teaches violin, viola, and chamber music at Bradley University. In 2003 she received the Outstanding Studio Teacher award from the Illinois American String Teachers’ Association with NSOA. Marcia also leads an active career as a recitalist, chamber musician, and soloist across the United States and abroad. She has appeared as soloist with the Samara Philharmonic Symphony in Russia and orchestras in Germany, in addition to numerous solo appearances with the Peoria Symphony and orchestras in Arizona, Illinois, Montana, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Washington.  Recent recitals have taken her to Georgia, Pennsylvania, Montana, Maryland, Oklahoma, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Missouri.

In 2006, Marcia recorded the three Grieg Violin Sonatas with pianist Antonio Pompa-Baldi on Centaur Records, for release in October 2007. In March 2007, Marcia and Antonio performed a recital featuring the Grieg Sonatas to a packed house at Bradley University. Also this past year, Marcia played in a chamber music recital with Chicago Symphony principal flutist Mathieu Dufour, appeared as soloist with the Peoria Symphony in March, toured Illinois and Missouri with her Concordia String Trio, and appeared as Maud Powell in a Sousa Tribute concert with the Bradley Symphonic Winds. In September and October 2007, Marcia will perform recitals and give master classes in Idaho, Washington, and Illinois.

Marcia is a founding member of the Concordia String Trio, the River City String Quartet, and the jazz quartet Marcia Henry + 3. The Concordia String Trio often premieres modern works written especially for them, juxtaposing pieces from the standard string trio repertoire with new compositions and lesser-known works of great composers. A CD recording of their first premiere was released on the Capstone label and another will be released in the coming year. The trio regularly tours in the Midwest, performs at the Warebrook Contemporary Music Festival in Vermont, travels to Boston to give concerts and workshops, and has presented concerts in Texas and California. CST has been heard on radio broadcasts throughout the region.

In the summer, Marcia performs and teaches at various music festivals. She is a faculty artist at the Red Lodge Music Festival in Montana, and at the Birch Creek Music Performance Center in Wisconsin. She has served as Primo Violino of Orvieta Musica in Italy, and taught at the Aria International Summer Academy.
