Opening Night of the Season
The Benefit Dinner
Morrison High School Cafeteria -- September 29, 2007
-
The Overture to the Season benefit opened the concert season in fine fashion. Those in attendance
included the general public, orches tra members, Board of Directors, and Music Director and Conductor Brian Dollinger. The meal was provided by Donna's Catering of Morrison and included an excellent baked chicken portion with vegetable medley, mashed potatoes/gravy, roll, and a delectable whipped pumpkin dessert.
Board president Robert Engelson introduced the evening and, following the meal, made several comments concerning the upcoming season, outlining the hopes, expectations and aspirations of the CSO Association for the year ahead. He stated that the Orchestra was now on a more substantial financial footing than in previous years, due in part to the stewardship of treasurer Bill Zickau. The Association has become stronger through successes in gaining funding from grants and by acquiring some new major contributors. He also lauded those in attendance and asked that they "continue both the support and faith that you've shown in us."
President Engelson then introduced the new Music Director and Conductor of the Clinton Symphony Orchestra, Brian Dollinger.
In our 54 year history, [Maestro Dollinger] is only the sixth person to hold this designation. He brings a wealth of musical experience and an engaging spirit to the orchestra, and we know you'll enjoy the wonderful series of concerts that he has planned for us.
Mr. Dollinger spoke to the group about his plans for the future growth and prosperit y of the CSO. He was most enthusiastic when he spoke to the possibilities of outreach to the young people in the several communities the Orchestra serves. In addition the the Young Artist Auditions, for example, Mr. Dollinger sees the potential for 'young artists' to visit local area schools to serve as models for aspiring musicians and future audience members. He praised the Orchestra members for their professionalism and enthusiasm in bringing great music to the Clinton-Morrison-Sterling area.
In all respects the benefit dinner proved to be a smashing success.
