Benjamin Rogers is the son of Linda and the late Donald Rogers of Savanna, and the fourth of five children. He has been a student of “firsts” for West Carroll High School.
As a junior he made the Illinois All-State Honors Chorus and became the first student in West Carroll history to also qualify at the state level to be a National Anthem soloist, which he
performed for the girl’s state softball tournament in 2012.
Rather than audition again for Choir his senior year, Benjamin set his sights on the All-State Band and earned the section leader chair. Additionally, he became the first West Carroll student to make the District 8 Jazz choir in 2012 and secured a baritone feature for the final performance.
Benjamin has also been an integral part in securing three consecutive IHSA Music Sweepstakes Class B championship titles, playing any one of his secondary instruments: flute, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, electric bass, piano, and, of course, voice and tuba. Ben was the lead last year and is preparing the lead role this spring in the upcoming West Carroll Musical.
On the side, Benjamin has been working on music composition and arranging. He arranged many pieces played by the West Carroll Pep Band in two trips to state in 2010 and 2012 at which he performed as well
In addition to his school music ensembles, Benjamin participates in local area events with the Sauk Valley Community College Band, Highland Community College Band, and the Dixon Municipal Band.
When he isn’t busy with music, Benjamin is the president of the National Honor Society and Interact club, a member of Spanish Club and Servant Leadership, and has earned the prestigious title of Illinois State Scholar. In the fall, Benjamin plans to attend Western Illinois University to earn a bachelor’s degree in Music Education.
